Step by step
- Open AI Command Center → Agent Builder. This tool is currently enabled only in the RJ & SD Ventures owner VUI.
- Choose + New Agent or start from a template such as Product Research, Content, Sales Follow-up, Bookkeeping Review or Operations.
- Enter the Agent Name and Role so VIA and other workflows can identify what job the agent owns.
- Write a specific Primary Objective describing the outcome the agent is responsible for, then add Operating Instructions covering priorities, workflow and quality standards.
- Choose an Autonomy level: Draft Only, Approval Required, Supervised Actions, or Autonomous Within Guardrails. Start new agents with Draft/Approval until their behavior has been tested.
- Set Status to Draft while building, Paused when temporarily disabled, or Active only when the definition is ready for workflow use.
- Choose the Model Profile and Handoff Policy. Automatic handoffs should be limited to approved agents and workflows.
- Select only the Allowed Tools the agent actually needs, such as Web Research, VUI Data, CRM, Calendar, Email, Content Studio, Finance, Analytics or Workflow Builder.
- Add Triggers that may start the agent, Knowledge Sources it may use, Allowed Handoffs, and explicit Guardrails that restrict what it may do.
- Enter a harmless Test Task and choose Validate Configuration. Review the readiness percentage, issues and execution preview. Validation does not perform external actions.
- Correct weak objectives, missing instructions, excessive permissions or missing guardrails until the configuration is ready. Autonomous agents should have multiple explicit guardrails.
- Choose Save Agent. Saved agents are stored in the VUI database and can be edited, duplicated, deleted or exported as JSON.
- Mark the agent Active only after testing. Active currently means the agent definition is ready for VUI workflow/runtime use; it does not by itself silently execute external actions.
- After an agent is used by a workflow/runtime, review its output, approvals and run history before increasing autonomy or adding permissions.
